John McMahon aka Michael Young (SN 5427) born at Bendigo, was a 39 year old bricklayer when he enlisted at Wangaratta on February 7th 1916. He embarked aboard the Euripides on April 4th but during the voyage became very depressed and tried to throw himself overboard. On arrival in Egypt he was hospitalised for a week, after which he was returned to Australia aboard the Clan MacGillivray , disembarked at Melbourne on August 14th 1916 and was discharged on October 3rd ‘medically unfit, melancholia’.
