Biography

Henry John Jolly (SN 294B) was born in Ballarat and educated at the Pleasant Street State School. The 18 year old was working as a butcher when he enlisted in Melbourne on January 12th 1916. He was assigned to the 5th Infantry Battalion and embarked for the battlefields in June on board the Persic. On October 4th 1917, he was killed in action at Broodseinde, Belgium. He has no known grave, and his name is recorded on the Menin Gate Memorial, Ypres,

His brother Ernest also served in the AIF and is honoured with the neighbouring tree in the Avenue.
