Biography

Albert Essington Edmonds (SN 242/Lt.) born at Horsham, was a 27 year old timber yard employee when he enlisted in Geelong on August 18th 1914. He embarked aboard the Benalla on October 19th and sailed via Albany to Egypt. In April 1915 he took part in the Gallipoli landing with the 8th Infantry Battalion but in May he suffered a wound to his arm. After Gallipoli he was twice wounded in France, a gunshot wound to his side in June 1916 and a shrapnel wound to his elbow in August 1818, after he had been promoted to lieutenant. He was granted ‘1914 leave’ and returned to Australia on the Somali, disembarked at Melbourne on February 8th 1919 and his appointment was terminated on April 9th. He also served during World War 2 with service number V352035.
