Biography

George Arthur Angus Newman, a 22 year old butcher by trade, enlisted on the 19th of February 1916. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A11 Ascanius on the 27th of May 1916. On January 1st, June 6th and August 15th 1917 he was promoted and given the ranks Lance Corporal, Temporary Corporal, and Corporal.
He returned to Australia on the 18th of July 1919 and was discharged on the 4th of September 1919.
