Biography

George Edwards (SN 2626) born in Ballarat, was a 28 year old fireman when he enlisted in Ballarat on August 2nd 1915. He embarked aboard the Ulysses on October 27th and sailed to Egypt. In June 1916 he moved to France where he served variously with the 58th Infantry Battalion, the 15th Brigade Headquarters and the 5th Division Signals Company. He avoided serious illness or injury and returned to Australia on the Trasos Montes, disembarked on May 22nd 1919 and was discharged soon after.

His brothers Edward and William also served in the AIF and are honoured with a tree in the Avenue.
