Charles Chapman Elliott (SN 1697) born at Ballarat, was a 19 year old boiler maker when he enlisted in Ballarat on February 21st 1916. He embarked aboard the Euripides on April 4th and reached France in September to serve with the 58th Infantry Battalion. In March 1917 he was listed as missing in action but was later found to be ill in hospital. At the war’s end he returned to Australia aboard the Orontes, disembarked at Melbourne on June 28th 1919 and was discharged on August 14th.
