Biography

John Heber Leopold Gilbert (SN 3067) was born in Haddon and educated at the Mt. Pleasant State School. He enlisted at Sebastopol on March 1st 1916. At that time he was 32 years old, married and a grocer. He was posted to the 37th Infantry Battalion and embarked from Melbourne in February 1917.
He was fatally wounded during the fighting around Broodseinde on October 5th 1917. He is buried in the Nine Elms Military Cemetery, Belgium. He was 33 ears of age.
