John Heber Leopold Gilbert was born in Haddon, and enlisted from Sebastapol on 28th February,1916. He was 32 years old, married and a grocer. He was to the 37th Infantry Battalion, with Regimental No. 3067. He was fatally wounded during the fighting around Broodseinde on 5th October 1917. He is buried in the Nine Elms Military Cemetery, Belgium.
