Biography

Born in Dunedin, New Zealand, Ernest Blair Howell was a single 26 year old piano maker at the time of his enlistment in Ballarat on the 12th of May 1916. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A11 Ascanius on the 27th of May 1916.
On the 26th of August 1918, Ernest was wounded in action after being gassed. He rejoined his unit on the 3rd of December 1918.
He returned to Australia on the 12th of November 1919 and was discharged on the 4th of January 1920.
