Biography

Hugh Gordon Morrow was born Ballarat and was a Barrister/Solicitor by trade when he enlisted in the 39th Battalion, C Company 26 February 1916 as a Lance Corporal at the age 31. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A11 Ascanius on 27 May 1916.
He reached France in November and in January 1917 he was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant. His mother was already a widow and with the death of his two brothers, in February of 1918 he applied to return to Australia for æfamily reasons'. His application was approved and he left England on April 5th to return to Australia on the Borda.

His two brothers were killed, Andrew (Tree No 513) in France in 1916 and Thomas (no Avenue of Honour tree) in Belgium in 1917.
