Biography

Henry Arthur Hobba was a single 19 year old labourer at the time of his enlistment in Ballarat on the 28th of February 1916. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A11 Ascanius on the 27th of May 1916.
In 1917, Henry was promoted three times; Lance Corporal on the 14th of May, Corporal on the 13th of July and Sergeant on the 12th of November.
On the 8th of August 1918 Henry was awarded the Military Medal.
He was wounded in action on the 10th of August 1918 with a gunshot wound to his left hand. Henry rejoined his unit on the 14th of October 1918.
On the 28th of June 1919, Henry married Edith Middlewick in St. Austell, Cornwall, England.
They returned to Australia on the 20th of February 1920 and he was discharged on the 11th of June 1920.
