Born in Ballarat, Thomas Harris was a single 18 year old hairdresser at the time of his enlistment on the 3rd of April 1916. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A11 Ascanius on the 27th of May 1916. On the 1st of August 1917, Thomas was appointed Extra Duty Pay Corporal. He reverted back to the rank of Private on the 15th of August 1917 on his transfer to England.
On the 19th of January 1918, Thomas married Kathleen Ivy Smith in Weymouth.
He returned to Australia with his wife, and was discharged on the 17th of August 1918 as medically unfit, the debility being unspecified.
