Biography

Born in Ballarat, John Harris was a single 18 year old plumber at the time of his enlistment on the 17th of March 1916. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A11 Ascanius on the 27th of May 1916.
On the 7th of June 1917 he was wounded in action after being gassed. He rejoined his Battalion on the 18th of November 1917.
On the 10th of August 1918, he was gassed on a second occasion. He rejoined his Battalion on the 7th of October 1918.
John returned to Australia on the 6th of August 1919 and was discharged due to the termination of his enlistment period on the 21st of September 1919.
