Eric Bowman Fraser (SN 805) born in Ballarat, was a 20 year old clerk when he enlisted in Ballarat on March 6th 1916. Assigned to the 39th Infantry Battalion he embarked aboard the Ascanius on May 27th and reached the battlefields of France in November 1916. He was wounded in action in Belgium on October 4th 1917 when he received a severe gunshot wound to his right ankle which effectively ended his active service. He was returned to Australia aboard the Dunvegan Castle, disembarked at Melbourne on June 14th 1918 and was discharged on July 27th.
