Biography

Charles Percival Beckwith (SN 1751) was an 18 year old picture framer from 51 Nicholson Street Black Hill when he enlisted in early March 1916. On May 4th he embarked on the Port Lincoln and in November he arrived in France as a reinforcement for the 58th Battalion. Shortly after his arrival he became ill and was hospitalised with influenza. His poor health continued and he was invalided first to hospital in England and then to Australia. On October 28th 1917 he was discharged as medically unfit, suffering ‘Debility D.A.H.’ (disordered action of the heart). He died on April 29th 1968 at the age of 70.
