Biography

Alfred Hugh Homer (SN 110 and 2557) was born in Ballarat and attended the Dana Street State School. He was a 26 year old labourer when he enlisted on August 27th 1914. He joined the 8th Infantry Battalion and left Australia in October. He was wounded at Gallipoli in June and was evacuated and returned to Australia. Once recovered he embarked once more from Melbourne in September 1916 on board the Shropshire and reached France in late December. He was fatally wounded during the fighting at Hamel and died on July 7th 1918. He is buried in the Vignacourt British Cemetery, France.
