Charles Findlay (Lt) was born in Echuca but educated at the Pleasant Street State School in Ballarat. He enlisted in Ballarat on August 28th 1914. At the time he was a 32 year old, married bootmaker. He served at Gallipoli with the 8th Battalion before moving to France in May 1916. In 1917 he suffered wounds to his face and arm but recovered and continued to serve until he was killed in action at Herleville, France on the August 23rd 1918. He is buried in Heath Cemetery, Harbonnieres, France. He was 38 years of age.
