Charles Findlay (Lt) was born in Echuca but educated at the Pleasant Street State School in Ballarat. He enlisted in Ballarat on 28th August 1914. At the time he was a 32 year old, married bootmaker. He served at Gallipoli with the 8th Battalion before moving to France in May 1916. In 1917 he suffered wounds to his face and arm but recovered and continued to serve until he was killed in action at Herleville, France on the 23rd August, 1918. He is buried in Heath Cemetery, Harbonnieres, France. He was 38 years of age.
