Biography

Henry Joseph Stevens (SN 912) was born at Little Bendigo where he attended St. James School. He enlisted on February 18th 1915 as an 18 year old, unmarried bootmaker. He was posted to the 23rd Infantry Battalion and embarked from Melbourne in May on board the Euripides, bound for Gallipoli. He reported ill on Gallipoli and was being evacuated to Lemnos on the Hospital Ship Simla when he died of diphtheria on September 10th 1915. He is buried in East Mudros Military Cemetery, Greece.
