Victor James Mills (SN 1863) born at Frankston, was a 27 year old married labourer when he enlisted in Ballarat on March 20th 1916. Assigned to the 39th Infantry Battalion, he embarked aboard the Orontes on August 16th and sailed to England. After further training there he moved to France in May 1917. In October he suffered a minor wound then in December he was gassed and evacuated to hospital in England. Once recovered he returned to France and transferred to the 7th Battalion. Aside from his wounds, during his service he also acquired several charges for short periods of absence without leave. When the war ended, he returned to Australia aboard the Ceramic, disembarked at Melbourne on March 23rd 1919 and was discharged on April 30th. He also enlisted to service during WW2 with service number V80835.
