Victor James Mills was a married 27 year old labourer at the time of his enlistment in Ballarat on the 14th of March 1916. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board RMS Orontes on the 16th of August 1916. On the 23rd of October 1917, Victor was wounded in action but remained at duty.
On the 30th of December 1917, he was wounded again. On the 7th of January 1918, he embarked for England, and was admitted to the Norfolk War Hospital in Thorpe, Norwich with gas poisoning.
On the 23rd of March 1919, Victor returned to Australia, and was discharged on the 30th of April 1919 as medically unfit.
