Thomas Louis Gitsham, a single sales manager from Ballarat, enlisted on the 11th of August 1914 at the age of 27. His unit embarked from Sydney, New South Wales, on board HMAT A35 Berrima on the 19th of August 1914.
On May 20th 1916 he was promoted to Lieutenant.
On October 22nd 1916 Thomas was discharged from the A.I.F in the U.K and appointed a commission in the Royal Flying Corps.
