Biography

David Dewar (SN 433) born at Mt Gambier, was a 39 year old labourer when he enlisted in Ballarat on March 1st 1916. Assigned to the 39th Infantry Battalion he embarked aboard the Ascanius on May 27th. He reached France in November 1916 and aside from a mild hand wound and a brief absence without leave, he completed his service without major incident. He returned to Australia on the Plassy, disembarked on April 30th 1919 and was discharged on June 14th .
