Thomas William Davis (SN 436) was born in Ballarat and was a 25 year old single labourer when he enlisted in Ballarat on March 20th 1916. He was stationed with the 39th Battalion. Early in his service he was disciplined for making a disturbance in a hut, and breaking ranks while on parade. While serving in France, he was wounded in action, suffering a neck wound that saw him evacuated to hospital at Bath, England. He then spent 50 days in the Bulford Hospital undergoing treatment for illness, before returning to France in September 1918. After the war he disembarked in Melbourne on June 29th 1919 and was discharged on August 13th 1919.
