Biography

Thomas Henry Wills (SN 1152) born in Ballarat, was a 19year old farm labourer when he enlisted in Mildura on March 21st 1916. On June 20th he embarked aboard the Runic, sailed to England and then in May 1917 he joined the 6th Infantry Battalion in France. In September 1917 he sustained bomb wounds to his arm and back and was evacuated to hospital. He rejoined his unit in February 1918 but in September he suffered a gunshot wound to his thigh. He returned to Australia on the Ceramic but contracted influenza on the voyage, He disembarked at Sydney due to his illness on March 23rd 1919 and was then discharged at Melbourne on July 24th.
