Biography

William Robert Sandford (SN 1188), was a 41 year old tailor, born in England, when he enlisted in Ballarat on February 24th 1916. On May 27th he embarked aboard the Ascanius to serve with the 39th Infantry Battalion. Aside from a mild wound suffered in France in June 1917, his service was dominated by a series of discipline issues. He returned to Australia aboard the Khyber and was discharged on July 6th 1919.
