George Edward Sanders Ford (SN 2077) born in Ballarat, was a 44 year old married labourer when he enlisted in March 29th 1916. Assigned to the 39th Battalion his unit embarked from Melbourne aboard the Shropshire on September 25th 1916. In February 1917 he arrived in France and on July 24th he was wounded in action, gassed, and evacuated to hospital. He rejoined his unit four months later but his health had suffered and he was withdrawn to England before being returned to Australia on the Marathon. He was discharged on July 20th 1918 'medically unfit – overage, gassed'.
