Biography

Stanley John Thomas (SN 614) was born at Sebastopol and attended the Sebastopol State School. He was 18 years of age, single and working as a plumber when he enlisted on March 30th 1916. He was drafted into the 39th Infantry Battalion and embarked from Melbourne on the Ascanius in late May, reaching France in November. On October 12th 1917 he was killed in action near Passchendaele, has no known grave, and his name is on Menin Gate Memorial, Ypres, Belgium.
