Biography

Patrick Meehan was born in Talbot and was a Miner by trade when he enlisted in the 39th Battalion, 2nd Reinforcement on 31 March 1916 at the age of 43. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board RMS Orontes on 16 August 1916. . In November 1916 he joined the 39th Battalion in France but within a month he had been hospitalised with scabies which persisted to the point that it was determined that he should return to Australia. Consequently he left England in May 1917 on the Ayrshire, and disembarked at Melbourne in July. He was discharged in early October 1917 æoverage'.
