Biography

William Henry Strange (SN 235), born in Ballarat, was an 18 year old coach painter at the time of his enlistment on April 4th 1916. He was allocated to the 39th Infantry Battalion and embarked from Melbourne for overseas service on board the Ascanius in May, reaching France in November. In June 1917 he was wounded, gassed, and evacuated to hospital. He rejoined his unit in August but in October he was seriously wounded at Broodseinde, in Belgium, and died the following day, October 5th 1917. he is buried in the Ypres Reservoir Cemetery, Belgium.
