Biography

John Benjamin Kahle (SN 2193) born at Snake Valley, was a 34 year old horse driver when he enlisted in Melbourne on April 22nd 1916. Initially attached to the 58th Infantry Battalion he embarked from Melbourne on August 1st aboard the Orsova. He reached France in December and soon after was transferred to the 60th Battalion. During the early months of 1917 he was troubled by bronchitis and laryngitis but thereafter he avoided major illness or injury. He returned to Australia aboard the Port Lyttleton, disembarked at Melbourne on August 5th 1919 and was discharged on September 19th. He took his own life on February 23rd 1922.
