Born in Ballarat, Alfred Harris was a single 30 year old labourer at the time of his enlistment on the 4th of April 1916. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A7 Medic on the 20th of May 1916.
On the 11th of April 1917 it was reported that Alfred was wounded and missing in action. It was later reported that he was with his unit, not missing. On the 18th of May 1917 he was admitted to hospital for his wounds.
He returned to Australia on the 6th of August 1919 and was discharged due to the termination of his enlistment period on the 21st of September 1919.
