Biography

Louis Howard Christopher Parrot (SN 202) was born in England and was an 18 year old labourer when he enlisted in Ballarat on April 3rd 1916. Assigned to the 39th Infantry Battalion he embarked from Melbourne aboard the Ascanius on May 27th and reached England in mid-July. He was deployed to France in November 1916. On April 30th 1917 he was wounded but not severely and was able to rejoin his unit a week later. On March 20th 1918 he was wounded again, this time suffering a serious wound to his chest. He was evacuated to hospital in England where it was decided he should return to Australia. He embarked from England on August 25th 1917, reached Melbourne on October 24th and was discharged on January 28th 1918.

Lucas’s Staffs Appreciation of Brave Men, the original Avenue register, records his name as Louis M. Parratt.
