Gilbert Josiah Chigwidden enlisted in Melbourne, Victoria at the age of 27 on the 10th of April 1916. He had been born in Minorta, South Australia, was Married, and was employed as a Stoker. He volunteered and was stationed with the 29th Battalion, 9th Reinforcement as Regimental number 3772. He was discharged and Returned to Australia on the 10th of June 1919.
Lucas’s Staffs Appreciation of Brave Men, the original Avenue register, records his name as Gilbert J. Chegwidden.
