Biography

Arthur Stanley McPherson (SN 1833) born at Ballarat, was a 26 year old hairdresser when he enlisted in Melbourne on April 18th 1916. He embarked aboard the Orontes on August 16th and sailed to England. He joined the 39th Infantry Battalion in France in November 1916 and avoided combat wounds but was troubled by bronchitis. Near the war’s end he was transferred to the Australian Employment Company. He returned to Australia aboard the Demosthenes, disembarked at Melbourne on March 2nd 1919 and was discharged on April 26th ‘medically unfit, effort syndrome’.
