Biography

William O'Keefe was born in Baringhup, VIC and was a Labourer by trade when he enlisted from Ballarat in the 39th Battalion, 2nd Reinforcement on 20 April 1916 at the age of 35. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board RMS Orontes on 16 August 1916. He was attached to the 39th Battalion, but was dogged by ill health and spent his time in England until it was decided he should return to Australia. He returned home on the Marathon and was discharged on July 27th 1918 suffering from æfibrosis of the lung'.
