Biography

Percy George Parker was born in Nhill, VIC and was a Master Baker by trade when he enlisted from Ballarat in the 39th Battalion, 2nd Reinforcement on 18 April 1916 at the age of 25. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board RMS Orontes on 16 August 1916. In November he joined the 39th Battalion in France but soon experienced a series of health issues including mumps, scabies and pediculosis (lice). By June 1917 he was assigned to permanent base duties in France, but in January 1918 he was recalled to England. He was diagnosed with cardiac illness and returned to Australia on the Osterley, disembarking at Melbourne on April 13th 1918. He was discharged on May 21st 1918 as æmedically unfit – disability – disordered action of the heart'.
