Leslie John Grigsbey (SN 6512) born at Ballarat, was a 21 year old insurance canvasser when he enlisted in Ballarat on June 6th 1916. He left Australia aboard the Nestor on October 2nd assigned to the 8th Infantry Battalion. Soon after reaching England he was admitted to Bulford Hospital where he spent almost two months. He was able to cross to France in April 1917. In August 1917 he was transferred to the 2nd Brigade Headquarters and from that point he avoided serious illness or injury. After the fighting ceased, he was placed at AIF Headquarters in a non-military role from late March 1919 until he left England on August 23rd. He returned aboard the Anchises, disembarked at Melbourne on October 8th and was discharged on November 22nd 1919.
