Biography

Edward Humphrey (SN 6040) born in Ballarat, was a married 41year old saw mill hand when he enlisted in Ballarat on April 28th 1916. Assigned to the 8th Infantry Battalion he embarked aboard the Themistocles on July 28th. On arrival in England he was transferred to the 39th Battalion and in November he crossed to France. Aside from some minor health issues he came through the war without harm but soon after hostilities ceased, he was diagnosed with ‘valvular disease of the heart’. He was returned to Australia aboard the Ascanius and disembarked at Melbourne on April 3rd 1919. He was discharged on May 11th 1919.
