Biography

Thomas William Hunt was born in Stawell and was a Grocer by trade when he enlisted from Ballarat in the 8th Battalion, 20th Reinforcement on 6 May 1916 at the age of 26. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A14 Euripides on 11 September 1916 disembarking in England in late October. On Christmas Eve 1916 he joined the 8th Battalion in France as a reinforcement. In December 1917 he transferred for a short time to the 2nd Australian Infantry Brigade Headquarters but returned to the 8th Battalion with whom he saw out the war. He returned to Australia on the Euripides, disembarking at Melbourne on October 20th 1919.
