Biography

Born in Ballarat, Leslie McCarthy was a single 24 year old platelayer at the time of his enlistment on the 8th of May 1916. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A14 Euripides on the 11th of September 1916.
On the 22nd of April 1917, Leslie was wounded in action, but rejoined his battalion on the 29th of May 1917.
He was wounded on a second occasion on the 30th of September 1917. Leslie embarked for England with a gunshot wound to his back on the 18th of October 1917.
Leslie returned to Australia on the 5th of July 1918, and was discharged due to his wounds on the 15th of August 1918.
