Biography

Albert Leslie Montague Greenwood (SN 2073) was born in Sebastopol and attended the Urquhart Street State School. He was a 32 year old orchardist when he enlisted at Mildura on April 29th 1916. He was posted to the 38th Infantry Battalion and sailed from Australia in September on board the Shropshire. On December 19th he crossed to France. He was wounded in action twice and on the first occasion was highly commended by the Divisional Commander for his 'gallant conduct on the recent raids on the enemy trenches'. He was killed in action in the Mont St Quentin area on September 29th, 1918, and is buried in the Unicorn Cemetery, Vendhuile, France.
