Biography

Horace Ferdinand Selleck (Capt.) was born at Buninyong and attended the Macarthur Street State School. When he enlisted on May 4th 1916 he was 29 years old, married to Olive and employed as a clerk in Ballarat. He was posted to the 38th Infantry Battalion and embarked from Melbourne on board the Runic in June. In February 1917, three months after arriving in France, he was wounded in action and briefly admitted to hospital, suffering from deafness. He was wounded again in October, this time suffering gunshot wounds to his arms, and was evacuated to England for treatment. He rejoined his unit in February 1918 but was was killed in action near Chuignes on July 20th 1918. He is buried in Villers-Bretonneux Cemetery, France.
