Hus unit embarked from Sydney, New South Wales, on board HMAT A20 Hororata on 14 June 1917. Upon arrival in England he was based at the 11th Training Battalion at Larkhill, destined to go no further. Ill health led to several health assessments until a Medical Board finally found him to be æpermanently unfit for general duties and permanently unfit for home service'.
