Biography

Born in Ballarat, James McCarthy was a single 26 year old miner at the time of his enlistment on the 12th of May 1916. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A7 Medic on the 16th of December 1916.
On the 28th of September 1917, James was wounded in action, but rejoined his battalion on the 28th of October 1917.
James returned to Australia on the 15th of February 1919, and was discharged as medically unfit on the 17th of March 1919 due to influenza.
