Andrew Douglas Mellor was a single 21 year old slaughterman at the time of his enlistment in Ballarat on the 15th of May 1916. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A14 Euripides on the 11th of September 1916.
On the 4th of October 1917, Andrew was wounded in action. He was transferred to England on the 7th of October and admitted to the Number 2 Military Hospital in Canterbury. He rejoined his battalion 14 days later.
On the 10th of October 1918, Andrew was transferred to England due to illness. He returned to Australia on the 10th of March 1919, and was discharged as medically unfit on the 7th of June 1919 due to rheumatism.
