Biography

Born in Ballarat and a Bookkeeper by trade, Edwin Daniel Appleton was 19 years and single when enlisted on the 17th of May 1916 in the 23rd Howitzer Brigade, 7th Reinforcement, Australian Imperial Force, with the rank of Driver, Number 28599. His previous military service was at the 67th Infantry. His Unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A38 'Ulysses' on the 25th of October 1916. On the 9th of May 1918 was admitted to hospital because of Tachycardia and was discharged from hospital on the 25th of September 1919. Returned to Australia per A æKarmala' on the 1st of July 1919. Disembarked on the 17th of August 1919. Discharged from the 3rd Military District on the 25th of September 1919. Tree No. 2406
