Born in Ballarat, Neil Grant was a single 20 year old clerk at the time of his enlistment on the 31st of May 1916. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A71 Nestor on the 2nd of October 1916.
On October 4th, 1917 he was wounded in action. He suffered from a crushed back from a buried shell.
He returned to Australia on the 26th of May 1918 and was discharged as medically unfit on the 6th of December 1918.
