Biography

Charles Gordon McIver (SN 2122) was born in Ballarat where he attended the Dana Street State School. He was born in Ballarat and enlisted there on May 29th 1916 as a 21 year old grocer. He was posted to the 39th Battalion and embarked from Melbourne in September on board the Shropshire. He arrived in France in December where he served until the end of the war. In March 1919, he became seriously ill with tuberculosis and was evacuated to Australia on board the Hospital Ship Karoola. He died in the Austin Hospital, Melbourne, on January 18th 1920 and is buried in the Ballarat Old Cemetery.
