Biography

George Alexander Loader (SN 1975) was born at Miners Rest and attended the local state school. He was a 27 year old farm hand when he enlisted on May 30th 1916. He was assigned to the 38th Infantry Battalion and embarked from Melbourne for active service in August on board the Orontes, eventually arriving in France in November. In 1917 he was hospitalised several times, before suffering a gunshot wound in June and evacuated to England. He rejoined his unit in October but was again wounded in action in December. He rejoined his unit in February 1918 but was killed in action at Curlu, near Peronne, on August 28th 1918. He is buried in Hem Farm Military Cemetery, France.
