George Alexander Loader was born in Miners Rest and was a farm hand from there when he enlisted on 17th March 1916. He was 27 years old and single. He became a member of the 38th Infantry Battalion with Regimental No. 197a (later No. 1975). He was killed in action near Curlu, France, on 28th August 1918, and is buried in Hem Farm Military Cemetery, France.
