William Harcourt Davies (SN 2611A) born in Ballarat was a 36 year old labourer when he enlisted on June 1st 1916. He embarked from Melbourne aboard the Karroo on September 18th. In June 1917 he crossed to France to join the 2nd Pioneer Battalion. He was wounded in action on September 15th, suffering a shrapnel wound to the abdomen, and after treatment in France he was evacuated to hospital in England. He returned to France in February 1918 and safely saw out the remainder of the war. He returned home on the Chemnitz and disembarked at Melbourne on September 5th 1919 and discharged on October 20th.
