Harry Rolf Sisely was a Clerk living in Ballarat when he enlisted with the 39th Battalion, 7th Reinforcement on 17 June 1916 at the age of 18. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A70 Ballarat on 19 February 1917. He was admitted to 1st Birmingham War Hospital in England, suffering a broken right femur. At 21 years of age he married nurse Elizabeth Taylor, 39, on 2 October 1919 and was granted indefinite leave, returning to Australia on 14 November 1919.
