Biography

Leslie John Malin (SN 2109) was born in Ballarat where he enlisted on June 19th 1916. He was 34 years old, a widower, and gave his occupation as a manufacturer. He was posted to the 39th Infantry Battalion and departed Australia in late September on board the Shropshire. He was promoted to Corporal while training in England. He was posted to France in October 1917 but was admitted to hospital with appendicitis the next month and invalided to England. He rejoined his unit in May 1918 but in late August he was seriously wounded in action at Mont St Quentin. He died on September 1st 1918 and is buried in Daours Communal Cemetery, Somme, France.
